Cape Town – Two men were killed when their bakkie got wedged underneath a truck near Khayelitsha on Monday morning.
The truck and bakkie collided on Old Faure Road, between Mew Way and Spine roads, around 08:00, said Western Cape traffic chief Kenny Africa.
Paramedics found the bodies of two men, believed to be in the 20s, trapped in the bakkie, ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said.
Africa said the bodies remained trapped for quite a while before a rescue team managed to free them. Another person was critically injured and taken to hospital.
Bodasing said the truck driver was uninjured.
“The exact cause of the incident is unknown.”
Eleven people died in accidents on Western Cape roads between Friday and Monday morning, said Africa.
“Shorter, darker days, and fog during the winter months, can increase the risk of road traffic crashes.
