A devastating crash between a minibus taxi and a double cab bakkie on the R40 near Hoedspruit has claimed the lives of 13 people.
The vehicles reportedly burst into flames upon impact, trapping several occupants inside.
According to initial reports, 10 passengers from the taxi and three from the bakkie died at the scene.
Emergency services rushed to the crash site, where they managed to rescue three critically injured passengers, who were transported to Tinswalo Hospital for urgent medical care.
Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Violet Mathye, expressed her deep sorrow over the tragedy.

“I am deeply shocked and saddened by this tragic incident,” Mathye said. “My heartfelt condolences go out to the families, next of kin, and the broader community who have lost loved ones. I wish a speedy recovery to those who sustained injuries.”
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the collision. Meanwhile, MEC Mathye has urged motorists to exercise extreme caution on major routes to prevent further tragedies.
