Delmas – Seven people have been killed in a major crash involving two trucks on the N12 outside Delmas on Monday morning, 18 August 2025.
The collision occurred at about 07h30 just after the R42 Bronkhorstspruit/Delmas off-ramp. The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) confirmed that a Volvo articulated side tipper truck ploughed into the back of a Hino truck that was parked in the emergency lane while loading farmworkers.
The impact was devastating, leaving seven people dead at the scene. Emergency services reported that five others sustained serious injuries, while a further eleven suffered minor injuries. The injured were transported to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention.
The RTMC stated that the cause of the crash is still under investigation. In a statement, the RTMC expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

This tragic incident once again highlights the dangers of stopping alongside busy highways and the risks farmworkers face when being transported in open trucks. Authorities have urged road users to remain vigilant and exercise extreme caution at all times.
