AGL Terminals Begins Operations at Cape Town’s A-Berth

Cape Town’s port operations have entered a new phase as (Africa Global Logistics) AGL Terminals officially begins managing A-Berth at Duncan Docks. The move comes after a lease agreement between Africa Global Logistics (AGL) and Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) took effect on 1 April 2025.

The agreement sees AGL taking charge of operations at one of Cape Town’s key port berths, with a focus on modernising cargo handling and improving efficiency. The partnership is part of TNPA’s broader strategy to bring in private-sector expertise to enhance South Africa’s port infrastructure.

AGL has outlined plans to introduce advanced technology and state-of-the-art handling equipment at A-Berth. The company also aims to improve turnaround times and streamline port operations. CEO of AGL Ports & Terminals, Olivier de Noray, described the lease agreement as a major step towards reinforcing Cape Town’s role as a critical trade gateway for South Africa.

“We are excited to collaborate with TNPA to drive innovation, optimise operations, and unlock new opportunities for the maritime sector,” said De Noray.

As part of the new arrangement, AGL will be working alongside Transnet Port Terminals (TPT), which will act as the waterside operator for A-Berth. TPT’s role will be to enhance cargo handling processes and improve service delivery.

TNPA has positioned the partnership as a model for future private-sector involvement in South Africa’s maritime industry, with expectations that it will attract further investment and improve the country’s global competitiveness in shipping and trade.

With AGL now operating in Cape Town, the company is expanding its footprint in South Africa, adding to its portfolio of port and terminal operations across the continent.
