Air compressor explodes killing tyre repair man in Durban

A tyre repair businessman has been killed after the air compressor he was using exploded and hit him in Verulam, north Durban on Wednesday morning.

The unfortunate incident happened at man’s business premises on Ireland Street in the Verulam CBD a short while ago.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to the business premises at approximately 09:46 after employees of a service station found the man lying in a pool of blood in his workshop while investigating the source of the explosion.

On arrival Medics assessed the victim and found that the victim was partially decapitated by a piece of metal after an air compressor exploded in his workshop.

He was alone at the time of the incident.

Police and the Ethekwini Fire Department attended the scene and will investigating further.
