Durban – Due to the Duzi Canoe Marathon and the Durban Ultra Triathlon taking place this weekend in Durban several roads will be closed to traffic.

Motorists are urged to take heed of the roads that will be affected.

Metro police spokesperson Parbhoo Sewpersadh urged motorists and road users to comply with all police officers instructions.

On Saturday the Blue Lagoon Area, Stiebel Place and Lagoon Drive will be closed for the Duzi Canoe Marathon.

Paddlers in this year’s Dusi Canoe Marathon, the biggest canoe marathon in Africa, can expect full rivers as they meander from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.

On Sunday the M4 northern freeway will be closed from 4:30am until 1pm from Sandile Thusi Road (Argyle Road) to the M41 La Lucia turn off.

Motorist are urged to note the following road closures:

  • Masabalala Yengwa Avenue and Isaiah Ntshangase road – entrance to Country club
  • Isiaih Ntshangase road past entrance to Country Club
  • Masabalala Yengwa Avenue and Jacko Jackson Drive
  • Masabalala Yengwa Avenue ( South bound) between Athlone Drive and Simiso Nkwanyane road
  • Simiso Nkwanyana Road ( East bound) and Masabalala Yengwa Avenue
  • Athlone Drive from opposite Lagoon Drive to Masabalala Yengwa Avenue
  • Masabalala Yengwa Avenue ( South bound)from Isaiah Ntshangase road to Battery Beach road
  • Suncoast Boulevard ( North bound) from Pirates Lifesaving Club to Battery Beach road
  • Kenneth Kaunda road (Northway) (South bound) from Humber Cresent to Athlone Drive

Sewpersadh said motorists/road users are urged to use the alternative roads – N2, R102 and North Coast Road and comply with all police officers instructions
