A tragic accident claimed one life and left two others injured when a minibus taxi, a sedan, and a truck collided on the R36 near Morokolotsi Achaar Farm on Wednesday afternoon.

The crash occurred at around 14:30, causing major disruption on the busy route. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) rushed to the scene, where one person was declared dead, and two others sustained moderate injuries. The injured were stabilised on-site before being taken to a nearby health facility for further treatment.

Authorities have since closed the R36 at Morokolotsi Achaar Farm to allow emergency teams to clear the wreckage and investigate the cause of the collision. Traffic has been diverted to the R71 as an alternative route.

Traffic officers and EMS personnel remain on-site, managing congestion and assisting motorists. Authorities have appealed to drivers to approach the area with caution, follow detour signs, and cooperate with officials directing traffic.

This latest crash comes just days after the horrific DNC bus tragedy on the N1 near Makhado, which claimed 43 lives, mainly Zimbabwean and Malawian citizens.

The exact circumstances leading to the R36 collision are still under investigation, and more details will be released once confirmed by the relevant authorities.

Motorists travelling between Tzaneen and Polokwane are advised to expect delays and plan their trips accordingly.
