Bergville N3 Crash: Police Hunt for Truck Driver Who Fled Scene

KwaZulu-Natal authorities are appealing to the public for assistance in tracing a truck driver who allegedly fled the scene of a deadly crash on the N3 near the Bergville Interchange on Saturday morning.

The accident, which involved a truck and a minibus taxi, claimed the lives of four people and caused major disruptions on the busy Gauteng-bound carriageway.

Emergency services, SAPS, and Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) officers attended to the scene, while traffic on the route was backed up for hours before the road was reopened.

KZN Transport MEC Siboniso Duma confirmed that his department is working to locate and support the families of the victims.

He expressed condolences and again reminded road users that reckless behaviour remains one of the biggest killers on South African roads.

“Research shows that road user behaviour is responsible for up to 87 percent of fatalities on our roads. Road safety is a shared responsibility, and we continue to intensify our enforcement, education, and road safety campaigns,” Duma said.

Authorities have urged members of the public with any information about the truck driver’s whereabouts to immediately contact local law enforcement.
