Two drivers have died when their trucks collided head-on on the N1 south about 20km after Winburg towards Verkeerdevlei Toll Plaza this Sunday morning, April 10th 2022.
A tanker from Imperial Logistics collided with another truck from Unitrans which was pulling a refrigerated trailer.
Pictures of the scene suggest that the tanker driver lost control of his truck, crashed through the centre median crossing onto the oncoming carriageway and collided with the other truck.
Both truckers lost their lives in the crash.
According to Free State Emergency Medical Services spokesperson, Sipho Towa, the two truck drivers are still trapped inside the vehicles.

The extraction of their bodies is currently underway.
Towa says that the N1 road is completely closed, as one truck is leaking fuel.
Traffic from Bloemfontein is being diverted from the Kareedam off-ramp, while traffic from Winburg is being diverted to Brandfort road.
