Buonadonna Group Goes Green With 100 New Scania Euro 5 Trucks

Thinking about the next generation! That’s not just a slogan for Buonadonna Group, it’s a plan in motion. The company has kicked off a massive “Go Green” fleet upgrade, with 100 brand-new Scania Euro 5 trucks scheduled to be operational by November 2025.

Currently, the company already has 47 Euro 5s working the roads, with the remaining units in their fleet still on Euro 3. But that’s about to change in a big way and it’s not just about ticking environmental boxes, it’s about setting an example for the entire industry.

“We believe in moving with technology but also being aware and supporting our environment,” the company said in a response to SA Trucker.

Instead of retrofitting old units, Buonadonna is investing in brand-new trucks: a decision they say is part of their long-term plan to fully transition to a greener fleet over the next three years.

There won’t be much disruption to their operations. The only noticeable changes are the addition of AdBlue systems both on-site and on-route to meet Euro 5 emissions standards. Training has been rolled out for both drivers and workshop staff, with help from Scania’s own team.

“The biggest challenge? Getting drivers trained weekly and making sure AdBlue is available across the country,” they explained. “Thankfully, Scania and our supplier have partnered with us to ensure supply wherever and whenever we need it.”

This isn’t just about Buonadonna ticking the compliance box. As they mark 40 years in trucking this year, their message is clear: the industry needs to think long-term and leave a better, cleaner South Africa for the next generation.

“We know we alone aren’t enough to make a big change, but we will do what we can, no matter how big or small.”

Keep an eye out for more green rigs hitting our roads soon and let’s hope more fleets take the hint.
