Cape Town – A total of R1.3m worth of counterfeit goods were seized at Rawsonville weigh bridge near Cape Town, including several hundred Springbok rugby jerseys.

Western Cape provincial traffic chief Kenny Africa told SA Trucker that a truck was stopped when officers became suspicious, upon which the South African Revenue Service was called in to assist.

After a thorough investigation by Customs officials, SARS seized 800 pairs of counterfeit Nike sports shoes and 430 Springbok rugby jerseys, Africa said.

The goods were worth a total of R1.3m.

The case has been handed over to SARS.

At the time of publication, a spokesperson for SARS could not be reached for further comment.
