Cape Town motorists can now renew their vehicle licence discs without even stepping out of their cars, thanks to the City’s first-ever drive-through licensing facility that officially opened in Brackenfell this week.
Located on the corner of Reservoir and Kruispad Roads, the drive-through is designed to speed up the renewal process to under five minutes, provided motorists have their paperwork in order.
The facility operates Mondays to Fridays from 11:30 to 19:30, and on Saturdays between 11:00 and 14:30. The City says it is already working with the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) to extend weekday operating hours.

Councillor Siseko Mbandezi, Mayoral Committee Member for Finance, said the service is a game-changer for residents.
“At this stage, our new facility will cater exclusively for the renewal of motor vehicle licences. To ensure a more efficient service, it will be cashless, accepting debit and credit cards only. Motorists can simply drive up, pay by card, and receive their disc without leaving the car,” he explained.
Those who received a renewal notice via SMS can show it at the window for quicker processing. No cash will be kept on-site, enhancing both safety and efficiency.
The City has promised more innovations over the next year as it aims to remain the most trusted and convenient motor vehicle licence renewal agent in the country. This comes after the rollout of its online booking system, which allows residents to schedule appointments for vehicle licensing, municipal account payments, and other services.
With Brackenfell leading the way, officials are already exploring the possibility of opening more drive-through centres in other parts of the city.
