A CCTV clip circulating online shows a dramatic crash that took place on Monday, 26 April 2026 at around 18h30 along Main Road in Misty Cliffs, near Kommetjie in Cape Town.
The footage captures a quiet stretch of road just before the incident unfolds. Without warning, a bakkie appears from an elevated side road and launches off the embankment above the main road.
The vehicle drops sharply, spins once mid-air, and slams onto the roadway below before surprisingly landing back on its wheels.
The impact is violent. Cargo is thrown across the road, scattering debris in different directions, while the bakkie comes to a sudden stop after the landing. The scene looks more like a stunt gone wrong than an actual road accident.
What has stunned viewers even more is what happens next. Despite the hard landing and chaotic aftermath, the driver is seen exiting the vehicle and walking away on his own. There are no immediate signs of serious injury in the footage, adding to the shock surrounding the incident.
The crash took place along the Main Road through Misty Cliffs, a coastal stretch known for its steep terrain and elevated roadside sections where mistakes can quickly turn dangerous.
At this stage, it remains unclear what caused the bakkie to leave the elevated section of road. Authorities have not yet issued an official statement, and the circumstances leading up to the incident are still unconfirmed.
The CCTV footage has since been widely shared online, sparking discussion around road safety in high-risk coastal routes and how quickly situations can escalate in areas with sharp elevation changes.
The video is expected to continue circulating as viewers try to make sense of how the driver managed to walk away after such a violent landing.
