CCTV footage has surfaced showing the moment a tanker truck crashed into the back of another truck during a major multi-vehicle collision on the N1 outbound at the R300 interchange on Monday, 24 August 2026.
The footage shows traffic moving steadily along the freeway before vehicles ahead begin slowing down. The tanker appears to react late to the changing traffic conditions before crashing into the rear of the truck in front.
The impact formed part of a larger collision involving two trucks, including the fuel tanker, and three additional vehicles.
According to information released at the time, the Titanium Securitas Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) was first on scene and immediately assisted with the emergency response. CPU members reportedly rescued the tanker driver from the vehicle and helped secure the scene while additional emergency services were activated.
The presence of a fuel tanker, combined with the number of vehicles involved, resulted in the scene taking several hours to clear.
