CCTV Reveals Dramatic Moments Cash Van Escaped Armed Pursuit Inside Umlazi Mall

New CCTV footage has emerged showing the heart-stopping moment a cash van evaded armed suspects by driving inside Mega City Mall in Umlazi during an attempted heist just after 6 am on Wednesday.

The video, now trending on social media, captures the cash van approaching the mall’s entrance at full speed, with a white Toyota bakkie carrying armed suspects close on its tail.

As the van swerves into the mall’s side passage, the suspects hesitate – clearly not expecting it to enter the premises.

Thanks to the early hour, only a handful of shops were open, which meant the van had a clear and unobstructed route inside the mall.

Sensing they’d lost their chance, the suspects turn the bakkie around and flee the scene firing a single shot into the air to scare onlookers.

Meanwhile, inside the mall, the footage shows the van speeding deeper into the passageway.

It eventually stops in front of a shop entrance, where two security guards quickly jump out and run away from the van.

The driver exits the van and runs as well, clearly believing the suspects were still hot on their heels.

Eyewitnesses inside the mall were stunned. “I just saw the van flying through the passage and the guards looking tense. It was like something out of a movie,” said one store employee.

Authorities have confirmed they are still investigating the attempted robbery and are analysing the CCTV footage for leads. No arrests have been made.
