A terrifying crash was caught on CCTV on Wednesday afternoon when a truck carrying heavy cargo lost control and slammed into a vehicle at the busy intersection of Sam Nujoma Drive and Talstrasse in Windhoek.
According to the City Police, the truck was travelling from Klein Windhoek towards the CBD when its brakes reportedly failed as it approached the traffic lights near the Hilton Hotel. The out-of-control truck smashed into and damaged one of the traffic lights before continuing downhill at high speed.
Footage of the incident shows pedestrians scattering for safety as the runaway truck barrels towards the intersection. Moments later, it swerves into a VW Polo, violently colliding with it and dragging it along its side as its cargo spills onto the smaller vehicle.

One of the heavy metal coils the truck was transporting is seen landing directly on top of the Polo, trapping the driver inside. Emergency services rushed to the scene, and after a tense rescue operation, the entrapped driver was successfully freed and transported to hospital for treatment.
Authorities are investigating the incident, with brake failure cited as the likely cause of the crash. The condition of the driver remains unknown at this stage.
