One of Zimbabwe’s oldest trucking companies, Colbro, has liquidated its Masvingo branch after the High Court placed Colbro Masvingo (Private) Limited under provisional liquidation.

A letter dated 27 February 2026 informed employees that the company had been placed into provisional liquidation by order of the High Court, with a Provisional Liquidator appointed to oversee the process. The provisional order is expected to be confirmed on 25 March 2026.

In terms of Section 40 (1) of Zimbabwe’s Insolvency Act [Chapter 6:07], all contracts of service have been terminated with immediate effect. This means the Masvingo operation has effectively shut down and employees no longer have employment.

Workers were advised that they may lodge claims through a creditors’ meeting to be held at the Office of the Master of the High Court in Harare on a date that will be communicated.

Affected employees are entitled to claim unpaid salaries for up to three months prior to liquidation, including outstanding payments for December, January or February where applicable, cash in lieu of accrued leave due for 2025 and 2026, and terminal benefits as permitted under Zimbabwean law.

According to the notice, salary records are available and each employee will be informed of the value of their claim. Employees may submit individual claims or appoint a representative to act on their behalf.

The Provisional Liquidator further stated that company assets, including trucks and other equipment, will be sold to raise funds to pay creditors. However, payments will not be immediate, as assets must first be disposed of and the creditors’ meeting concluded.

Colbro has long been regarded as one of Zimbabwe’s established players in the road freight sector, making the closure of its Masvingo branch a significant development within the regional trucking industry. Further clarity is expected once the High Court confirms the provisional liquidation order later in March.
