The Durban trucking community is in mourning following confirmation that Donovan and Racheal Chetty tragically lost their lives in a house fire at their Burlington home early Tuesday morning.
The Chetty family has issued a heartfelt statement confirming the passing of the couple, who were pillars of both the local business and faith communities.
Donovan Chetty was the founder and owner of Dontrans, a respected name in the logistics and transport game for over four decades.
Known for his sharp business acumen and unwavering dedication to his fleet and clients, Donovan built Dontrans from the ground up into a household name in the industry.
His wife, Pastor Racheal Chetty, was the spiritual backbone of Elohim Ministries, where she led with love, wisdom and grace. She played a central role in supporting not only her family but also the wider community, often stepping in with acts of generosity and kindness.
Together, they are survived by five children, 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family is renowned for their philanthropic work and deep roots in the Durban South community. Their loss is being felt far beyond the trucking circle, as tributes pour in from all walks of life.

A comfort service will be held this evening, 29 July 2025, at the Arena Park Regional Hall, R.K. Khan Circle, Chatsworth starting from 6pm onwards. All who knew the Chettys and wish to pay their respects are welcome to attend.
As the investigation into the cause of the fire continues, the memory of Donovan and Racheal will no doubt live on through the legacy they leave behind, in business, in ministry, and in the hearts of those they touched.
