Truck drivers and cross-border transport operators plying the Democratic Republic of Congo route have been urged to halt all vehicle movement immediately following credible warnings of a high-risk security situation linked to a planned national protest in the country.
SA Trucker has received multiple confirmed voice notes and alerts from reliable sources on the ground warning that widespread protests are expected today, 24 January, after the arrest of Leon Cuba, President of the Transporters Association of the DRC.
According to information received, Mr Cuba was arrested after openly challenging the continued operation of a mandatory truck scanner at Kanyaka Parking in Lubumbashi. The scanner reportedly costs $100 per truck and has become a major point of tension within the trucking industry.
Sources say Mr Cuba had been lobbying for the scanner to be moved to borders or mine sites, arguing that the current setup has created dangerous congestion at Kanyaka Parking. Drivers are often left stationary for extended periods, making them easy targets for criminal attacks, theft, and intimidation.
Roads and Borders at Risk
Security warnings indicate that any truck found moving today could be targeted or damaged by protesters, with drivers specifically advised to remain parked in safe locations.

Borders expected to be affected include Kasumbalesa, Mokambo, and Sakania, where transporters have been told to stop and wait for further instructions.
Drivers already inside the DRC are strongly advised not to move at all until the situation stabilises and clearance is confirmed by clearing agents and fleet managers.
Safety First
Transport companies are urging drivers to stay alert, maintain communication, and avoid unnecessary exposure. With tensions running high, this is being treated as a serious and evolving security threat.
Truckers are encouraged to share this warning widely within their networks.
