Dash Cam: Drunk driver arrested after colliding with truck killing seven

Seven people were killed in a horrific crash between a truck and a bakkie in Namibia on Sunday.

The crash occurred at the entrance to Gobabis when a bakkie, driven by a drunken man, crashed into an oncoming tanker truck.

Video footage from a dash board mounted camera inside the truck shows the driver of the small bakkie losing control over the vehicle before it started sliding sideways and crashing into the truck.

According to a report about the tragedy issued by the Public Relations Division of the Namibian Police the crash occurred at about 19:00 on Sunday on the outskirts of Gobabis on the Trans Kalahari Highway while the truck was approaching the town.

Six passengers in the load box of the Ford Bantam were killed instantly while another died in the Gobabis hospital.

The truck driver was treated for shock at the same hospital.

According to the report both drivers were tested for alcohol at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the Bantam bakkie tested positive for alcohol and was arrested on the spot.

He was, however, transported and admitted to the Windhoek Central Hospital.
