Weird things happen on the road hey, and this clip is one of those that leaves you shaking your head long after the engine is off. It is the kind of incident that reminds every person behind the wheel why we say a prayer when we reach the yard safely.
In the dashcam footage doing the rounds, a truck driver is travelling at night behind a bakkie on a dark stretch of road. Visibility is limited, as it usually is after hours, and the truck signals his intention to overtake. He flicks on his brights to check the road ahead and make sure it is clear. Everything looks normal, until it suddenly is not.
As the truck pulls alongside the bakkie, the unthinkable happens. The bakkie driver swerves sharply to the right, straight into the path of the truck, almost as if trying to push it off the road.
The two vehicles collide, and the truck is forced off to the right-hand side. Somehow, through skill, luck, or divine intervention, the truck driver manages to keep the truck upright until it comes to a stop.
The bakkie driver is not as fortunate. After the impact, the bakkie veers off to the left-hand side of the road and overturns. The scene that follows is chaotic, and the footage ends with more questions than answers.
Was this a case of road rage, possibly triggered by the glare from the truck’s brights? Was the bakkie driver trying something reckless and deadly, thinking he could bully a much bigger vehicle? Or was it a genuine mistake, a moment of panic or loss of control at exactly the wrong time?

What makes this clip so disturbing is how deliberate the swerve looks. Truckers know that brights, overtaking, and night driving all come with risks, but no one expects another road user to actively drive into you.
