Dashcam footage has surfaced online showing a heart-stopping moment when a side tipper truck dangerously overtakes on double solid lines, narrowly avoiding a head-on crash near Douglas in the Northern Cape.
The incident, captured on a dashcam with GPS coordinates confirming the location, shows the recording vehicle travelling on a narrow stretch of road when it meets a convoy of side tipper trucks heading in the opposite direction.
The first truck passes safely, but things take a nasty turn when the second truck appears — it’s in the wrong lane, attempting to overtake another side tipper on a blind rise, right on double solid lines.
With nowhere to go, the recording driver is forced to swerve off the road to avoid what could’ve been a deadly crash.

Unfortunately, this kind of reckless driving is becoming all too common on South Africa’s roads, especially in areas like the Northern Cape, where stretches of road are quiet but still dangerous.
It’s clear from the video that the overtaking driver had no visibility and zero regard for the rules of the road or the lives of others.
