A serious crash on the R31 between Barkley West and Postmasburg on Sunday afternoon was caught on a truck’s dashcam, shocking viewers online with its intensity.
The video, which has since gone viral on social media, shows a chilling moment where a light motor vehicle suddenly swerves into the path of an oncoming truck, resulting in a high-impact collision that caused the truck to overturn.
In the footage, the truck – which was following another heavy vehicle at a safe distance – is seen travelling steadily down the two-way road. Moments later, a car appears from the opposite direction, violently swerving across the centre line.
The footage reveals what appears to be the car being nudged or struck from behind by another vehicle, causing it to lose control and veer straight into the truck’s lane.
The impact was devastating. The truck hits the car on its side, sending debris flying.
The truck is seen overturning onto its side as the driver is flung around in the cab. The trucker took a serious knock as he was not wearing the safety belt.

Emergency services were called to the scene, and authorities have yet to release an official statement on injuries or fatalities. Bystanders who arrived shortly after the crash described it as one of the worst they’ve seen on that stretch of road.
The exact cause of the incident is still under investigation, but early speculation suggests the rear-ending of the car played a major role in the tragedy.
Motorists are urged to drive with caution, especially on rural roads like the R31 where overtaking and following distance often get ignored.
