Dashcam Captures Truck’s Escape After VW Polo Repeatedly Tries to Stop It Near Komatipoort

A tense dashcam video circulating online shows a black VW Polo engaging in dangerous driving behaviour towards a heavy-duty truck in the Komatipoort area. The exact date of the incident remains unknown.

In the footage, the Polo overtakes the truck over solid barrier lines before immediately cutting in front and braking hard, seemingly trying to force the truck driver to stop. The trucker keeps his composure and continues driving, showing no intention of pulling over under those conditions.

The Polo then accelerates and blocks the truck’s attempt to pass on the right. On a single filter lane, the situation escalates further as the Polo once again moves in front of the truck in an apparent attempt to bring it to a halt. The truck driver pushes forward, narrowly avoiding a collision and making it clear he won’t be forced into stopping in an unsafe spot.

Moments later, the Polo speeds ahead and comes to a standstill in the roadway, leaving a very small gap for the truck. The driver exits the vehicle and gestures for the trucker to stop. Thinking fast, the truck driver uses a narrow gap on the left to slip past and continue his journey.

At the time of publishing, SA Trucker was unable to reach the truck driver for comment, and the full context behind the incident remains unclear. While the behaviour seen in the video resembles tactics sometimes associated with taxi industry confrontations, there is no confirmation linking this incident to any specific group.

Advice for truck drivers:
Situations like this can easily turn into hijacking setups. Truckers are strongly advised not to stop for unmarked vehicles or individuals attempting to force them off the road. Rather, keep moving, maintain a safe distance, and head towards the nearest police station, toll gate, or busy area where it is safer to stop. Always keep doors locked, stay alert, and report the incident as soon as it is safe to do so.
