Dashcam footage of the devastating crash between a truck and a minibus at Van Reenen’s Pass on Monday night has surfaced on social media.
17 lives were lost in the collision.
The footage, widely shared on social media, reveals that the minibus lost control and veered into the truck’s lane, resulting in the fatal collision.
Preliminary investigations by authorities indicate that the truck driver was not at fault.
However, questions remain as he disappeared from the scene shortly after contacting his employer.
In the video, the minibus taxi can be seen loosing control and it veers onto the truck’s path leading to the devastating accident.
Heavy rainfall, excessive speed, mechanical faults, and possible driver recklessness by the minibus driver are being scrutinised as contributing factors.
Ndabezinhle Sibiya, spokesperson for the MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, confirmed that the crash claimed the lives of seven men, three women, three boys, and four girls. The sole survivor, a baby girl, is currently recovering in hospital.
