Dashcam Footage Shows Moment BMW Rear-Ends Bakkie, Then Crashes Into Truck on N3 at Hilton

Six people were injured, including two children, in a high-impact collision on the N3 near the Hilton off-ramp on Wednesday afternoon, 23 July.

The crash involved a black BMW, a bakkie, and a heavy-duty truck, resulting in a major emergency response from KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service and other agencies.

According to onboard dashcam footage from a truck stationary in the left lane, a black BMW is seen approaching at high speed before it violently rear-ends a bakkie travelling ahead of it.

The impact causes the BMW driver to lose control, veering across lanes and crashing into the rear trailer of a stationary truck directly ahead.

KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service confirmed that six occupants – four adults and two children, all travelling in the same vehicle – were injured in the collision.

Two adults were critically injured and trapped in the vehicle, while two other adults sustained serious injuries. One child was critically hurt, while the second suffered serious injuries.

Fire and Rescue personnel had to use extraction tools to free the trapped victims, working alongside paramedics who stabilised the patients on scene before rushing them to hospital for further treatment.

Initial reports suggest the family had been returning from an outing when the accident occurred. Authorities have opened an investigation into the exact cause of the crash, although speed appears to be a major contributing factor based on video footage.
