Dashcam reveals horrific moment truck ploughes into N2 9 vehicle pile-up crash near Ermelo

Two people were seriously injured when 5 trucks and 4 cars were involved in a multi-vehicle accident on the N2 near Ermelo on Tuesday morning.

The 9 vehicle pile-up crash happened on the N2 highway about 35km outside Ermelo towards Piet Retief in Mpumalanga.

At the time of the crash, visibility was very poor as a result of dense fog in the area.

In a dashcam video, shot from one of the trucks involved in the accident, motorists can be seen desperately trying to flag down an approaching truck before they all make a last second dash away from its path after noticing that it wouldn’t stop in time.

The truck crashes into the back of a side tipper interlink trailer before bulldozing its way to crash into the truck from which the video is filmed.

According to a trucker at the scene, the motorists who were flagging down the truck all managed to escape harm.

Paramedics said two people were seriously injured while a few others sustained minor to moderate injuries.

Ermelo Police, the Traffic Department, Msukaligwa Fire and Rescue Service, EMS and various towing services were on the scene.

A video of the aftermath of the horrific crash shows total carnage, with badly damaged cars, trucks and trailers.

The highway was closed for most part of the day causing a massive backlog of traffic.
