A shocking dashcam video has surfaced showing the terrifying moment a truck lost control and hurtled across a busy intersection at N1 North and Nelson Mandela Road on Thursday afternoon, narrowly missing several vehicles.
The footage, recorded by motorist Aneke Van Zyl, shows her vehicle stopped at a red light as traffic flows from both sides. Suddenly, a large truck appears from the left side of the screen, barrelling through the road ahead at speed. It narrowly avoids a stream of passing vehicles before jumping over the road and crashing to a stop on the opposite side.
Sharing the experience on Facebook, Van Zyl described the chaos and horror as it unfolded in front of her:
“Today I experienced firsthand how quickly an accident can happen. People say it happens in the blink of an eye – and that’s not just words. It’s the absolute truth. I will never forget the sound of that truck… the roar, the dust, the smoke – it haunts me.”
The video, which has since gone viral on social media, has shocked South Africans with just how narrowly disaster was avoided.

“I wish I could show those last few vehicles that were just crossing the road, what my dashcam recorded – just how close it was. God’s protective hand was truly over us, and especially over them. Seconds… it only took seconds,” Van Zyl added.
After the crash, Van Zyl and another bystander rushed to the scene to offer help. A staff member from a nearby dealership also joined, but she expressed disappointment that many others simply drove past.
It’s unclear at this stage whether the crash was due to mechanical failure, a medical emergency, or driver error. Emergency services responded swiftly, though no official updates on the driver’s condition have been released.
