A recently surfaced dashcam video has gone viral showing a dramatic high-speed police pursuit involving a hijacked courier truck, with private security teams and police units working together to bring the situation under control.
The footage, recorded from one of the pursuing vehicles, shows multiple law enforcement and private security cars in close pursuit of the rigid truck as it speeds through urban roads.
The truck driver can be seen taking corners at dangerous angles, with the vehicle leaning heavily at times and narrowly avoiding a rollover as it attempts to shake off the pursuers.
As the chase intensifies, police officers can be seen escalating their response. According to what is visible in the video, officers begin firing shots aimed at the truck’s tyres after it becomes clear that the driver has no intention of stopping. Despite this, the suspect continues driving, maintaining speed but not managing to fully outrun the faster response vehicles.
The situation comes to a sudden end when the driver attempts a sharp turn in what appears to be an effort to escape the convoy.
The manoeuvre fails, and the truck loses control, crashing into a perimeter wall and sustaining significant damage.
Immediately after the crash, officers and security personnel rush to the scene. The suspect reportedly abandons the vehicle and attempts to flee on foot, but is quickly chased down and apprehended within moments.
He is then seen being placed into the back of a police van.
Sources indicate that the incident took place in Gqeberha, although the exact date has not yet been independently confirmed at the time of publication.
The video has sparked intense reactions online, with viewers divided between shock at the level of risk involved and concern over the dangers posed to other road users during high-speed pursuits involving heavy commercial vehicles.
