Dashcam Video: Two Buses Collide Head-On After Driving Blindly Into Smoke-Filled Highway

A chilling dashcam video has surfaced showing the moment two buses collided head-on after both drivers charged straight into a smoke-covered stretch of highway caused by a veld fire.

In the clip, one of the buses is seen travelling at highway speed as it approaches thick smoke drifting across the road from burning veld alongside the highway. Instead of slowing down or stopping, the driver keeps going – even as visibility disappears completely.

For about eight long seconds, nothing can be seen ahead. Suddenly, a minibus from the opposite direction emerges out of the smoke, and the two vehicles smash into each other head-on.

Passengers can then be seen scrambling out of the wreck, fearing the buses could catch fire. At this stage, the number of injuries or fatalities is not known, and the location of the crash remains unclear.

What is clear, however, is that both drivers showed astonishing disregard for the obvious danger. Pushing forward blindly into zero visibility is as good as signing up for disaster – and this video proves it.

Closer to home, South Africa saw exactly this kind of negligence in July, when drivers ploughed into thick mist on the N2, causing a massive pile-up crash. The result was the same – twisted metal, chaos, and preventable loss.

Trucker Tip: If you can’t see beyond your stopping distance, you’re going too fast. Put hazards on, ease off the accelerator, and wait it out. Don’t gamble with lives – yours or anyone else’s.
