Deadly Overtake Kills Family of 6 in R42 Horror Crash with Truck

A family of six, including a toddler, was killed in a horror crash after their vehicle attempted a deadly overtake on the R42 between Heidelberg and Vereeniging on Monday afternoon.

The accident happened at around 16h00 and involved a Ford Fiesta and a side tipper truck. Preliminary reports indicate that the Fiesta attempted a dangerous overtake manoeuvre, lost control, and slammed head-on into the truck. All six occupants of the car were declared dead at the scene.

The victims were identified as David Khehla Malindi (68), his wife Alina Malindi (61), their daughters Vangile Malindi (32) and Phindile Malindi (27), the driver Xolani Bucibo (28), and 3-year-old Lwanzi Shabalala.

Emergency services, including Fire and Rescue, responded swiftly but found the vehicle crushed beyond recognition. The wreckage was so severe that responders described it as one of the worst scenes they’ve encountered along that route.
