Truckers, here’s some good news for the road ahead! From Wednesday 07, May, Mzansi sees a much-needed fuel price drop across the board – with diesel leading the pack.
According to an official statement from the Central Energy Fund (CEF), fuel prices will be adjusted as follows from Wednesday, 7 May 2025:
🟢 Petrol 93 & 95 (ULP & LRP): down 22c/litre
🟢 Diesel 0.05%: down 42c/litre
🟢 Diesel 0.005%: down 41c/litre
🟢 Paraffin (wholesale): down 31c/litre
🟢 Paraffin (retail): down 41c/litre
🔴 LPGAS: up 46c/kg
For long-haulers and fleet owners, the diesel price cut is a noticeable win. With both diesel grades dropping over 40 cents per litre, it’s a small breather for the trucking game – especially after the tight first quarter we’ve had.

Now, before you go filling up the entire yard – here’s the fine print. The CEF says the rand took a knock this time, averaging R18.83 to the dollar compared to R18.29 last month. So while international oil prices came down, the weaker currency softened the blow a bit.
Still, it’s a win in our books.
