Doccie to delve into what ‘led to the tragedy’ of Reeva’s death

The “warnings and lessons” in her murder are the “driving force” behind Beyond Reasonable Fact‚ a “possible three-part documentary series exploring the events leading to the tragic Valentine’s Day killing of Reeva Steenkamp”.

“Having reported on the Oscar Pistorius trial for EWN and international news outlets‚ Mandy Wiener and Barry Bateman‚ the first journalist on the scene of the shooting‚ are ideally positioned to guide us in the telling of this story‚” said Paul Kruger of Hartiwood Films‚ who‚ along with Deepend Films’ Paulene Abrey‚ acquired the film and documentary rights to the book.

“While their book will form the factual basis for the documentary‚ our intention is to examine the personalities involved in a holistic way to try to understand what led to the tragedy.”

Abrey said: “Our objective is not to re-examine the facts presented at trial‚ but rather to work backwards and examine the last seven months of their lives and the choices they made during that time.

“We have to look beyond the facts presented at trial‚ examine the intricate family relationships and the personality types of the dynamic young lovers in order to understand how this came about.”

Pistorius was originally found guilty of culpable homicide for shooting Steenkamp dead on February 14‚ 2013‚ but this verdict was changed to murder by the Supreme Court of Appeal. He will return to the high court in Pretoria in June for sentencing.
