One person has tragically died, and another escaped unharmed following a head-on collision between a Toyota Quantum minibus and a truck on the N10 road near Cradock on Friday morning.
The Eastern Cape Transport Department’s spokesperson, Makhaya Komisa, confirmed the incident, stating that the crash occurred around 06:45 in Middelburg, approximately 61km from Cradock. Komisa mentioned that only the drivers of both vehicles were involved in the accident.
Initial reports suggest that the crash happened when one of the vehicles was attempting to overtake a stationary truck.
“The driver of the Toyota minibus was declared dead on the scene by emergency services,” Komisa said.
Meanwhile, the truck driver managed to escape without injuries.

Authorities have opened a case of culpable homicide at the Middelburg SAPS as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.
Motorists on the N10 are urged to exercise caution and be mindful of overtaking, especially on stretches of road where visibility may be compromised.
