Operations at the Durban Container Terminal (DCT) have been temporarily suspended following a tragic incident in which a truck driver lost his life after being knocked down by another truck.
Details surrounding the incident remain unclear at this time, but truckers at the scene have informed SA Trucker that trucks entering the port have been stopped to allow investigations to take place and the body to be removed.
According to one trucker, who wished to remain anonymous, the driver was in the process of directing another truck in reverse when the tragedy occurred.
The incident took place at the A-check area, where trucks process their bookings before entering the terminal, near the help desk. However, the witness could not confirm if it was the truck being guided that was involved in the accident.
As a result of the incident, operations at the terminal have been severely affected, with no trucks allowed to enter the facility at this time. The area has been cordoned off as investigations are underway.
