A truck driver operating a South African-registered side tipper truck died while offloading at the Aspindale Silos in Harare. The driver, identified only as Clifford, was a Zimbabwean national employed by a South African transport company and had been doing cross-border work at the time of the incident.

According to a close friend of the deceased, Clifford was asthmatic, although it has not yet been officially confirmed whether this played a role in his death.

On the day of the incident, Clifford had already completed tipping the back bin of his truck. Shortly thereafter, the offloading supervisor instructed him to immediately tip the front bin as well. When repeated calls for him went unanswered, the supervisor initially assumed that Clifford may not have heard due to his radio playing loudly.

Concerned by the lack of response, the supervisor went to check on him in the cab. That is when the grim discovery was made. Clifford was found seated in the driver’s seat, unresponsive.

Emergency services were called without delay and attempts were made to revive him. Sadly, when paramedics arrived on scene, Clifford was pronounced deceased.

The exact cause of death has not yet been confirmed, and it remains unclear whether any underlying medical condition contributed to the incident. No foul play is suspected at this stage, and the matter is understood to be under routine review.

Clifford is remembered by colleagues as a hardworking driver who was simply doing his job. Condolences have been pouring in from fellow truckers and friends across South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.
