‘Drunk’ truck driver killed in crash on R61

A truck driver has been killed in an accident on the R-61 between Port St Johns and Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape.

Provincial traffic spokesperson, Charles Bramwell says the accident happened early on Thursday morning, when the man lost control around a bend. He says the vehicle, transporting bricks from Durban, rolled down an embankment.

Bramwell says a passenger in the truck was slightly injured, and told authorities that the driver was intoxicated.

He says the driver’s body was trapped in the vehicle, and the jaws of life had to be used.

Bramwell says empty beer cans were found in the wreckage.
