Pietermaritzburg – KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma, has issued a stern warning to truck owners that they too will face arrest if their vehicles are found operating illegally, following the latest sting under the province’s ongoing #NenzaniLaEzweni Operation along the N3 corridor.

The operation, conducted at the Mkhondeni Weighbridge in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday morning, saw three undocumented Malawian nationals arrested, along with the exposure of a racket involving foreign truck drivers using fraudulent licences from Swaziland.

Authorities also suspended a truck, executed eight outstanding warrants of arrest, and nabbed a Mozambican taxi driver who was transporting passengers, including Malawians from Ermelo to Durban, without a valid route permit.

The multi-agency blitz brought together officers from the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI), SAPS Dog Unit, Vehicle Theft and Highway Patrol Units, Home Affairs’ Immigration Unit, the Department of Labour, Cross Border Road Traffic Inspectorate, Umsunduzi Traffic Department, and N3TC Toll Concession Patrol.

“This is zero tolerance in action,” said Duma. “We are done issuing warnings. Those who violate the law, drivers and owners alike, will be arrested. Trucking companies that knowingly employ undocumented drivers or use fraudulent permits are the real perpetrators, and we are coming for them.”

The MEC added that the province has intensified its crackdown on cross-border crimes, particularly the transportation of undeclared and illicit goods, following the discovery of millions worth of unverified cargo in recent weeks.

Duma made it clear that the clean-up will not slow down anytime soon. “We have instructed RTI to have no mercy on those who disregard South African laws. This is not just about compliance; it is about protecting our economy, our people, and the integrity of our transport system.”

#NenzaniLaEzweni continues to sweep across KwaZulu-Natal’s major routes, leaving lawbreakers with nowhere to hide.
