Durban-Bound M7 Gridlock After Truck Flips Onto Car

Durban – A truck driver was injured on Tuesday morning after losing control of his rig and overturning on the M7 Durban-bound, about 300 m past the Bellville Road offramp.

The truck, hauling a 40-foot reefer container, flipped onto its right-hand side. The heavy container came to rest on top of a car, trapping it from the rear left side.

When this reporter arrived at the scene, tyre marks on the roadway suggested the truck had veered off for a few metres, crashed into an embankment, and then come back onto the road before rolling over onto its side and onto the car.

Fortunately, the car’s sole occupant escaped without injury. The truck driver was treated by paramedics on scene before being taken to hospital for further care.

Durban-bound traffic was heavily affected as the truck and car blocked the left lane, creating a nightmare for morning peak commuters.

By 09h00, the scene was still active and traffic remained severely backed up.
