Durban Floods: Woman Swept Away in Her Car, Found Dead

Severe thunderstorms and torrential rains have wreaked havoc across KZN, causing rivers to overflow, embankments to collapse, and multiple road incidents.

In eThekwini, search and rescue teams worked overnight to locate a vehicle swept off a low-level bridge on Sarnia Road in Pinetown.

ALS Paramedic spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said the car was found on Stapleton Road on Friday morning after crews tracked it along a flooded river.

“Rescuers managed to reach the vehicle safely and discovered the body of a woman, believed to be in her fifties, who had succumbed to her injuries,” he confirmed.

SAPS and Metro Police Search and Rescue teams recovered the body, but the vehicle remains in the river, with retrieval planned once the weather improves.
