Durban – A 27-year-old police constable from Cato Manor has been arrested in connection with the hijacking of BMG Transport owners and the tragic death of their 11-year-old daughter, Zarah Ramsamy.

The Grade 5 pupil was killed during the hijacking in Malvern last month, a crime that sent shockwaves through the local community.

During the operation, police recovered a bank card belonging to Zarah’s mother, which was stolen during the hijacking of the family’s Toyota Fortuner.

Zarah lost her life when the hijackers, attempting to flee, drove over her as she hid beneath the vehicle.

The SUV was later found abandoned that night.

The arrest came as part of an ongoing multi-unit investigation led by the DPCI Provincial Tracking Team and the DPCI Anti-Gang Unit, along with the Provincial TRT, PMB K9, and other specialized units.

The operation also saw collaboration from private security companies such as Fidelity SIU, Hawks Protection Services, and Magma Security & Investigations.

In addition to the stolen bank card, authorities reportedly uncovered a stash of new bank cards, multiple cellphones, and several license plates in the officer’s possession.
