The Port of Durban has issued a warning to customers, transport operators and logistics stakeholders ahead of planned protest action expected to take place on Friday, 19 June 2026.
In a notice circulated to customers and stakeholders, the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) confirmed that a protected national protest led by the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) is scheduled for Friday and could affect routes leading to the port.
While the protest is not expected to take place inside the Port of Durban itself, TNPA warned that access roads leading to the port may be impacted, potentially affecting the movement of trucks and cargo.
The port authority also said it had been informed of a separate march planned by the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party on the same day.
According to the notice, the MK march is expected to begin at 10:00 and proceed from Trawlers Wharf Street to Langerberg Road, an area located within the broader port precinct and logistics corridor.
TNPA urged all customers, transport companies, freight operators and other stakeholders to remain alert and take the necessary precautions when planning movements into and out of the port on Friday.
“The Port of Durban will remain fully operational,” TNPA said in the notice.

The authority added that it is working closely with law enforcement agencies and has activated business continuity measures to monitor developments and minimise potential disruptions.
For the trucking and logistics industry, any disruption around Durban’s port access routes can have a knock-on effect on container collections, deliveries and turnaround times, particularly during peak operating periods.
Truck drivers and fleet operators travelling to the port on Friday are advised to monitor traffic conditions closely, allow for additional travel time and stay informed of any route changes or traffic management measures that may be implemented during the protest actions.
The Port of Durban remains South Africa’s busiest container port and a critical gateway for imports and exports, making uninterrupted access routes vital for supply chain operations across the country.
