Durban trucker found murdered after being hijacked near Heidelberg

A Durban based truck driver has been found dead with his hands and feet tied in Kliplaagte, near Heidelberg after he was hijacked on Tuesday night.

The body of the trucker was found in the early hours of Wednesday morning on R103 (Old Alberton Road).

It’s alleged that he was hijacked around 22h00 on Tuesday night on the N3 near Heidelberg.

Heidelberg SAPS members patrolling the Kliplaagte area noticed a stationary truck at around 03h00.

Upon closer inspection, the members found the body of a man with his hands and feet bound with cable ties.

A few hours later, another hijacking occurred on the N3 in the same Heidelberg area, but this time the truck driver was armed, he managed to fight off the hijackers leaving two of them dead in the process.

News of the truck driver shooting two hijackers dead brought hope to the trucking community that these robbers could be defeated.

That hope was shortlived as news started filtering in of another driver being killed during a hijacking prior to this heroic act.

Circumstances of the hijacking in which the driver was killed are not known at this stage.

The owner of the vehicle confirmed to the police that the victim was the driver of the truck.

He was driving from Durban to Johannesburg with a full trailer load.

The 12m trailer registration: FWT924MP, container CSNU6029721 and cargo are still missing.
