Quick action by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) has led to the recovery of a stolen Freightliner Truck and the arrest of two suspects along the R23 near Benoni.
According to EMPD officials, members of the Eastern Region Task Team, working hand-in-hand with Gauteng Traffic Police, were conducting routine patrols when they pulled over a suspicious white Freightliner truck hauling two semi-trailers. The rig, manned by two foreign nationals aged 31 and 25, claimed to be transporting empty cans to Cape Town.
But something didn’t add up.
Officers ran the truck’s details and quickly confirmed that it had been reported stolen in Grasmere. The duo were immediately cuffed and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle.
The suspects are currently being held at Brakpan Police Station, and investigations are ongoing to determine if they’re linked to a broader truck theft syndicate.
This bust is another win in the ongoing fight against truck hijackings and theft in Gauteng. EMPD has urged the public – especially those in the freight industry – to remain alert and report any suspicious activity.
