Engen Rolls Out Free Health Screenings for Truck Drivers This Transport Month

As Transport Month rolls on this October, Engen is once again stepping up for the trucking community with its Driver Wellness Campaign, offering free voluntary health screenings for truck drivers across South Africa. The initiative underscores Engen’s ongoing commitment to the health, safety, and well-being of the country’s “highway heroes”.

Kicking off on 20 October, the 2025 campaign will reach drivers at 29 Engen Truck Stops and selected Engen 1-Stops nationwide, matching last year’s impressive national coverage.

Partnering again with Trucking Wellness, an initiative of the National Bargaining Council for the Road Freight and Logistics Industry (NBCRFLI), Engen will provide professional on-site health screenings and wellness support to drivers.

“Truck drivers are the unsung heroes of our highways,” says Adnaan Emeran, Engen’s Commercial Marketing and Business Development Manager. “Their long hours and tough schedules make campaigns like this essential—not just for their health, but for road safety too. With 90% of South Africa’s goods moved by road, Engen is proud to play its part in keeping both drivers and the economy moving.”

Last year’s Transport Month drive saw over 1,600 health screenings conducted at Engen Truck Stops and 1-Stops across eight provinces—up more than 400 from the previous year.

This time around, truckers can once again access a wide range of checks, including blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, malaria, TB, STIs, HIV/AIDS, and BMI assessments. Each participating driver will also receive a free tog bag from Engen as a token of appreciation.

According to Tertius Wessels, Managing Director of Trucking Wellness, the initiative goes far beyond basic check-ups:

“Drivers spend long stretches away from home and face unique health risks. By bringing wellness services directly to their workplaces, we’re promoting early detection and healthier lifestyles—ultimately making South Africa’s roads safer.”

The support doesn’t end after Transport Month. Drivers can continue accessing care at six permanent Trucking Wellness clinics located at Engen Truck Stops in Beaufort West, Musina, Port Elizabeth (Gone South), East London (Kempston), Harrismith, and Kokstad.

“Engen’s partnership with the transport sector goes back decades,” adds Olwethu Mdabula, Engen’s CSI Manager. “We’re proud to keep supporting the men and women who keep our nation supplied and connected.”

Truckers are encouraged to pull in at participating Engen Truck Stops and Engen 1-Stops during Transport Month and up to mid-November to take advantage of these free screenings.
