Fadel Logistics South Africa has officially confirmed the closure of its Rosslyn depot in Pretoria, a move that will result in retrenchments affecting employees based at the facility.
In a formal notice dated 15 January 2026, the company issued a Notice of Contemplated Retrenchment to all employees at the Rosslyn depot, with copies sent to labour unions and regulatory bodies including RETUSA, TAWUSA, the NBCRFLI, and the CCMA.
According to the letter, the retrenchments form part of a broader restructuring exercise undertaken in terms of Section 44 of the Main Collective Agreement for the Road Freight and Logistics Industry, as well as Section 189A of the Labour Relations Act.
The company states that after a “thorough and careful review” of its long-term strategic direction, shareholders made the difficult decision to close the Rosslyn operation in order to ensure the business’s long-term sustainability.
The retrenchments are described as being driven primarily by economic factors, and not related to misconduct or disciplinary processes.
Fadel Logistics further clarified that retrenchment, in this context, will result in the termination of employment once the consultation process has been concluded.
While a specific effective date has not yet been announced, employees have been formally notified that job losses will follow once the process reaches completion.
The closure of the Rosslyn depot is expected to have a significant impact on workers, many of whom have served the company for years in various operational roles.

At this stage, it remains unclear how many employees will ultimately be affected.
Labour unions are expected to engage with management during the consultation process to explore possible alternatives, mitigation measures, or severance arrangements, as required by law.
SA Trucker will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as more information becomes available, particularly around timelines, final employee numbers, and any response from organised labour.
