Fake goods worth millions confiscated at Durban Harbour

The Hawks’ Counterfeit Team has seized fake goods estimated to be worth R41.5 million at Durban Harbour.

Hawks spokesperson Simphiwe Mhlongo says they got wind of a vessel coming in yesterday and bringing a cargo of counterfeit goods into the country…

He says officers waited for the ship to enter the port.

“Upon the arrival of the vessel on Friday, members were already at the harbour. They took samples from the suspected container and send them to various brand owners [to establish their authenticity]. It was then established that the goods were not original,” he said.

The haul includes detergents and other household items.

He says officers are still trying to track down the owner of the consignment adding arrests are imminent.
