A devastating head-on collision occurred this Thursday morning on the N11 in Redhill just outside Ladysmith leaving one person dead and raising serious questions about how such a serious crash could happen in a low-speed construction zone.
The crash involved a bakkie and a truck at the ongoing roadworks zone in the area. According to witnesses at the scene, the bakkie veered into the truck’s lane, leading to the fatal collision. Despite the construction zone’s reduced speed limits, the crash was catastrophic.
The driver of the bakkie was declared dead at the scene, while the truck driver was fortunately uninjured.
Despite swift efforts by the paramedics to reach the scene, the bakkie driver could not be saved.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, with Ladysmith SAPS confirming that a case of culpable homicide is being pursued. Authorities are working to determine the cause of the fatal accident.
