Truck driver pay structure always spark a heated debate between employer and employee as both parties try to get as much as they can from the other.
With the scarcity of jobs trucker bosses end up at the winning side as drivers take whatever is on offer just to make sure they are able to provide for their family.
For the employer, it’s about maximising profits and getting the most they can from their truck drivers.
On the other hand, the drivers prefer getting paid for every hour they spend at work be it ‘productive’ or not.
The employer rests on the fact that he only makes money when the driver is being productive not by merely being present at work.
The truck drivers’ argument is that when they avail themselves for work they have to be paid for every hour regardless of how much they have worked.
I am here, use me all you can, if you can’t it’s not my problem, I still need to be paid.
In this poll, I am asking truck drivers who later become owners if their view of the driver’s pay structure changes.
