Front tyre burst blamed for Modimolle crash that claimed 27 lives

A front tyre burst on the truck has been blamed for the horrific Modimolle accident that killed 27 people on Friday afternoon, a witness’ account has revealed.

A witness, who wants to remain anonymous, was travelling behind the truck. She described how the truck swerved onto the oncoming lanes after the tyre burst colliding first with a Nissan NP200 followed bu three other vehicles.

The South African Police Service in Mookgopong outside Modimolle are investigating a case of Culpable homicide and they have not yet given a comment on their progress.

Amongst the fatalities, are two minor children. Four people survived and they were taken to different hospitals for medical treatment.

It is alleged that on Friday 2018-10-19 at about 14:30, a truck that was carrying cement was travelling along the N1 South when it lost control causing it to swerve into oncoming traffic where it collided with four motor vehicles including a 22 seater Mercedes Benz mini bus and a Nissan NP200 which caught fire on impact.

Reports say that noone from the mini bus survived the crash.

The exact cause of this accident is still under Police investigations.

The process of identifying the deceased, is still underway.
